Headache management and pain management

These are areas where a physiotherapist can help you. Headaches can be caused by many things that sometimes you need someone else’s help to point out. If you are someone who experiences headaches or pain on a day-to-day basis, it is important to take a look at a few areas. Let’s explore ergonomics and strength and conditioning as 2 potential areas that may be contributing to your symptoms.

1. Poor Ergonomics contributing to headaches and pain needing to be managed

Poor ergonomics can cause headaches or pain if your body is not appropriately aligned throughout your work day. Poor posture can increase strain and stress through the tissues in your neck, these tissues can refer their tension into the head to cause a headache. Oftentimes, adjusting your desk setup, or participating in daily neck and body stretches can help alleviate headache pain. Having a sound ergonomic setup can also help you avoid repetitive strain or stress injuries in the body. These injuries can take a long time to resolve and need lots of care, so better to avoid them together where possible.

2. Muscles contributing to headache and pain management needs

Pain can often be managed by maintaining an equilibrium of balance within your body. This means ensuring that your postural stability muscles like your core and shoulder muscles are strong and that your neck muscles are not too tight. This is why it is so important to keep yourself fit and able to avoid throwing the body out of whack, leading to pain and headaches, or worse, injuries. A simple weekly stretch and strength program goes a long way to help your body function well day to day, and age well overall.
