5 common injuries a physiotherapist in vancouver treats

Vancouver Musculoskeletal Conditions

What exactly is a Musculoskeletal (MSK) condition? An MSK condition is an injury, niggle, or ailment that affects the soft tissues (joint, ligament, tendon, muscle, fascia ) or bones in your body. These issues could stem from an injury or a wear and tear process over time in the body. And this is what a physiotherapist can help you diagnose, manage and avoid. So let’s look at a few common MSK conditions a physiotherapist may encounter in clients.

Repetitive Strain Musculoskeletal Conditions

Defined as an injury that happens over time from repeating a similar motion or task over and over again. Such as an inflamed thumb tendon from repetitively pushing a button or clicking the mouse. After time, the same motion can cause inflammation and wear on the area which can lead to pain. A physio can help you avoid, manage and overcome such injuries through advice, treatment, and home exercises.

Back pain

Likely one of the most common MSK injuries we encounter at the clinic for all ages at every stage of life. Back pain can be postural, activity, work, or injury related. At some point in life, you are likely to experience some variation of back pain. Working with a physio can help identify risk factors, provide preventative measures and help alleviate and manage the pain you may be experiencing in your back. Often strength work and mobility work along with adjusting certain patterns can be a game changer for back pain.

Activity Injuries
Another very common area where we encounter MSK injury is from activities such as sports, or recreational endeavors. Injuries such as a bike or ski fall, or sprained ankle from hiking, or a torn muscle from baseball are all examples of conditions we may encounter as physios. Being active is of course so important in life, so when an injury related to activity does strike, be sure to check in with your local physio so we can get you moving again!
