Vancouver Physiotherapy Clinic Explains Back Pain

Back pain affects four out of five Canadians at some point in their lifetime. Most commonly between the ages of 30-50, with no major differences in stats when comparing those who identify themselves as males or females. The most common mechanisms of injury I see in the clinic, are simple tasks such as reaching in the fridge or sitting too long at a desk. Back pain and injuries can be debilitating, which is why I like to take a proactive approach to back health; treating an injury before it happens.

If you are someone who works from home, is active, or has a history of any type of back pain, why wait for the next flair up? Go see your local physio for an assessment and a proper personalized home exercise/stretch plan to keep you on track for avoiding future issues. Often, an ergonomic assessment can be done as well, meaning the physio can look at your desk set up (if you bring a picture) and offer advice to make changes that will better suit your body’s needs. One thing the pandemic has offered is the chance to do virtual consultations from the comfort of your own home, making it more convenient than ever before to access healthcare from wherever you are. I just did 2 virtual ergonomic assessments for clients of mine living on the Gulf Islands (here in BC) as there are no physiotherapists working in these small rural communities.

To conclude, if you have a history of back niggles, why wait for an issue to arise. Be proactive and contact your local physio to discuss ways you can avoid something from happening in the future. Motion is lotion, let’s get moving!
